Albemarle Pipes & Drums

About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Charlottesville VA, was established in 2006 with the express purpose of performing, teaching and preserving the music and culture of Scotland and the British Isles through the music of the Great Highland Bagpipes and Drums. Our band performs both locally and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. We always welcome new members and previous musical experience is not required.

Band Practice
The band practices each Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in the Grace Episcopal Church in Red Hill located at 3121 Red Hill Depot Rd, Charlottesville, VA.

Scholarships
The band offers a scholarship for purchasing lessons, piping and Scottish drumming school tuition, and instruments to a City or County County Middle School/High School to a qualified student.

Mission
The group's mission is to (1) invite community members to join the band and (2) to participate in community and educational events.

History
From 2003 to 2007, the band operated in association with the Albemarle Sheriff's Department and under the Crime Prevention Through Education Foundation. In order to expand its focus, the band became independent in 2008 and received its own tax exempt status in 2009.
